I love a modern rustic interior, it's my specialty! So it's natural that I stared incorporating a little bit of farmhouse style to my designs. Even in my own home I have vintage farmhouse decor mixed with modern furnishings, and it makes for a cozy interior. But I know some of you want to add just a touch without going too rustic...it's as simple as these 3 steps.

TEXTURE: Mixing textures is a simple trick for adding farmhouse style to any space. A reclaimed wood dining table with a metal frame is a simple look, but how about adding wicker chairs? Create a feature wall by adding a wood treatment, there are great peel and stick products as well as the ever popular shiplap treatment. How about a mix of throw pillows with various fabrics?

PLANTS: Bring nature indoors with plants and greenery. A cotton wreath over a mantle makes a bold statement. How about adding faux plants to a table or console? One of my favorite items are moss spheres that add nature in a stylish way. It doesn't have to be green either; how about a wall vessel of faux sage and lavender stems.

MODERN FURNISHINGS: Now you can't have a modern space without modern elements. Seating with clean lines mixed with farmhouse throw pillows in a living room. A geometric rug anchors a space and provides a great space for that rustic bed. How about a pair of mercury glass lamps for your dining room buffet.

The sky is the limit with all of the online stores out there. I've shopped at Zgallerie, Magnolia Market, and Restoration Hardware for one interior that needed farmhouse flair. With shows like Fixer Upper it's not hard to see why this style has caught the attention of so many people.
